Rattan is a great little town in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. The current population is about  250 and increases considerably during the summer months and deer season. It is located 12 miles east of Antlers, The Deer Capital of the World, and 43 miles west of Broken Bow on Highway 3.

Rattan, Oklahoma was named after the town Rattan in Texas; however, Oklahoma pronounces it Rat-tan and Texas pronounces it Rat'un. Rattan, Oklahoma is located at the intersection of Hwy 3 and Hwy 93 about 33 miles north of the Texas-Oklahoma border. Rattan, Texas is at the intersection of Farm Roads 1530 and 3388, between Doctors and Giles creeks three miles southeast of Pecan Gap in western Delta County.

Moses Allen Fleming was the first postmaster for Rattan, Oklahoma. He was born in Kentucky, moved to Texas, and then on to Oklahoma in 1902 before it became a state. Most of the Fleming families in the area are his descendants.

Later, The Campbells ran the post office and general store in the 1940s. Earl Campbell is pictured in the center.

 

Rattan, Oklahoma has an enjoyable climate with four seasons. The summer months temperatures are usually in the 90's during the day and the nights in the 70's. The average summer temperature is 79 degrees F.

The winter months highs are in the 40's and lows in the 20's. The average winter temperature is 42 degrees F. Annual snowfall average is about 4 inches per year.

Pushmataha County in Southeast Oklahoma is considered a Sportsman's paradise!  What ever you want in outdoor sports, you will find it in this beautiful country.

 

 

The Kiamichi River is excellent for bass, catfish, bream, sand bass and crappie. The local lakes are great for fishing and boating. Lake Ozzie Cobb's 116 acres of water is just 6 miles northeast of downtown Rattan. The large Hugo Lake is just south of Rattan.

 

 

Hunters come from all over to look for deer, wild turkey, quail, and squirrel in Pushmataha County.

Pine Creek Lake
Pine Creek is a 5,000 acre lake which offers a relaxed atmosphere and excellent boating and fishing activities.
